DistributionA single collection is known: Brunswick County, sandy roadside, Orton Plantation; collected in 1947 by Fox and Wells.

Native of the Old World tropics; in N.A. from NJ and KY south to FL and TX.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatSandy roadside.
PhenologyFlowering July-September.
IdentificationIn this plant, the leaves are not divided into leaflets, the corolla is large (1.7-3.0 cm long), and the pods are glabrous. From C. spectabilis it may be told by its smaller leaves (4-8 cm long vs. 5-15 cm long in that species).
